親愛的日新家長們，

1. 一年一度的學術比賽已經圓滿結束。恭喜每位參賽和得獎的學生，也謝謝評審老師和同仁們的努力，讓學術比賽順利完成。我們將在二月四日舉行參賽抽獎活動， 祝大家幸運中獎。
2. 本學年的下學期已於上週六，一月二十八日開始，希望每位同學繼續努力學習中文， 並把中文應用於日常生活中。
3. 在此提醒大家， 二月二十五日為因應寒假假期學校不上課。
4. 再次，希望家長們能夠利用Scrip所提供的折扣優惠，多多購買Scrip，來幫助學校增加一些活動費用。

Dear RCS Parents:

1. We have successfully completed the two-week long annual academic contests. Congratulations to all participants and winners! I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all the contest staff and teacher judges for their dedication and team work. We will be raffling off the top prizes this Saturday, Feb-04. Good luck to all students who put in their tickets!!
2. The second semester officially started last Sat., Jan. 28th. I want to wish all students a great 2nd half and continue to excel in your studies of the Chinese language and apply them in your daily life.
3. Please review the school handbook; we will not have class on Feb. 25, observing winter recess!
4. As always, please buy as much script and gift cards as you can to support our school. Feb. 14th is Valentine's Day. You can buy gifts, flowers or See’s candies to show your affections to your love ones and our school benefits from the discounts offered by the various gift cards.

FUHSD 2012年中文AP考試 - 報名辦法更新.由於報考人數逐年增加，但是學校電腦設備數量有限，無法容納所有考生，今年FUHSD學區中文AP考試將採取新的報名辦法，學區將以提高報名費(由$95 調高到＄105) 及強制優先順序來因應。 詳情請參閱 AP Chinese Exam 2012 - Registration Process.

• 凡是在FUHSD學區上中文AP課和12年級的同學有優先報名權, 請在1/30到2/10之間報名.
• 11年級的同學(沒有修中文AP)有第二優先權, 請在2/13至2/17之間報名.
• 9 和 10年級選修中文的同學有第三優先權, 請在2/20到3/1之間報名.
• 非FUHSD學區的學生不得報名.
• 報名費為 $105.

LOST and FOUND. There are lots of jackets in our office lost-and-found box. If you lost a jacket, please go to the office at Rm. B101 and check with the General Affairs team. Someone may have found your jacket or other items and turned them in.

Short Film Contest. Theme: Learning Chinese (a funny episode, experience or lesson). Like to show the world your funny experience in learning Chinese and win an Ipad? 值日家長隨堂觀感表回收率低. 值日家長隨堂觀感表的回收率卻仍然非常低。有些班級竟然沒有回收到一張表格！教務組需要家長的共同參與來做教學評鑑， 以期能讓我們的孩子有更好的學習效果，這不是我們送孩子來中文學校的目的嗎？ 若家長尚未有機會到孩子班上看看，請務必抽空到教室觀察孩子與老師及相互間的互動，以期在填寫表格時能有中肯 的鼓勵與建議。 表格 填寫完請交回辦公室. 謝謝您的合作！
The return rate of Class Evaluation Sheet is still low. There are even some classes without any sheet returned yet! The curriculum team needs all parents' input to improve our children's learning environment. Please take some time to observe your child’s/children’s classroom activities. Then kindly fill-up the evaluation form and submit to the office. CSL parents can email to your class's curriculum staff. We appreciate your honest critique!

We have opened 2 new staff positions to help support the roll-out of the Moodle online learning system at Rainbow Chinese School. The RCS Web and CSL Curriculum teams will be providing some basic training and documentation to those who are interested in learning a new application. You will be awarded full service points (4 for the year) by taking on the role. A. Moodle System Administrator

• Key Responsibilities:
  • 1. User accounts management (ADD/DELETE users)
  • 2. Assign levels of privileges (User profiles)
  • 3. Support any user log-in issues
  • 4. Generate usage reports (monthly)
  • 5. Maintain Moodle database and perform Moodle-related backups and system upgrades
• Desired Skills:
  • 1. Manage and maintain mysql database (moodle database) backup.
  • 2. Familiar with Linux environment.
  • 3. Familiar with multi-tier web architecture (Apache, PHP, mysql).

B. Moodle Architect & User Support

• Short-term key responsibility:
  • Will be trained initially by IT and CSL Curriculum teams
  • Define, assign & maintain the user roles
  • Post or help users (content owners) post the material (e.g. bi-weekly)
  • Edit or help users (content owners) edit content
  • Capture & document usage (e.g. how to post, edit content)
• Long-term key responsibility:
  • Train the content owners to edit or post material (using documentation)
  • Continue to improve the site’s navigation and layout
  • Experimenting with new ways of using the Moodle system
• Desired skills:
  • Familiar with Moodle or other online learning systems
  • A strong interest in learning and working with a new application
  • Good communication skills

RCS-IT is recruiting parent volunteers. What we do: We maintain the school web-site and provide technical assistance to our teachers and students. Giftcards and scrip for teachers, gift exchanges, friends, and family!

It's that time of year again when we start planning on what gifts to get for the holidays. Instead of trying to figure out what item to buy, use gift cards instead. Gift cards are a good option when planning for a gift. We offer a variety of stores, such as restaurants, bookstores, department stores, etc. RCS carries gift cards from participating stores for everyone's convenience. Help support RCS by purchasing gift cards. There will be a (1%) savings on the gift card's face value and (2%) saving on the scrip for our parents. The order form includes stores such as Safeway, Macy's, Starbucks Coffee, See's Candies, Barnes & Nobles, Border's, AMC Tickets, JC Penny, Jamba Juice, Baskin Robbins, Home Depot, Sweet Tomatoes, and more. To order :

• 1. Please fill out the order form, only the yellow parts. There is no need to do the calculation. It will be done for you automatically.
• 2. Print the filled-out form.
• 3. Attach a check payable to Rainbow Chinese School.
• 4. Return the form the Scrip selling station in front of L building.
• 5. We will let you know when to pick up your gift cards.

Also, please keep purchasing the Scrip from Marina Food, Ranch 99 (gift card )and Marina to support our school.

停車讓同學下車的家長請注意安全，並請確定同學會進教室上課。之前有發生同學在家長離開後仍在停車場逗留的事件，相當危險。 To drop-off parents, please use caution and make sure kids will enter the classroom. It has happened before that kids remained in the parking lot after the parent left. It is really un-safe.

Homestead 提供日新的緊急疏散地點已由原先的停車場改為二個新建好的球場。 Homestead’s ”Evacuation Map” has been changed. The new Evacuation areas are the two new sport fields.

因應全球暖化，而節能減碳的措施，日新通訊由去年開始改由email 派送訊息。 希望您可以用行動來支持，定期收看日新通訊。 In response to global warming and carbon footprint reduction, from last year we have changed the paper newsletter to be delivered by email. Please support the program by reading the newsletter regularly.

今年的學生手冊含 ”教室檢查表”(第13頁)及”值日家長觀感表” (第14頁)。方便輪值班上(room parent)的家長複印使用。網頁中的”各式表格(Various Forms)” 亦有提供PDF 版本。輪值班上(room parent) 的家長可以省確到辦公室取表的時間。但是還請下課後將表格交回辦公室並簽退。 The handbook this year includes the “class room check list” (Page 13) and “class evaluation form” (page 14). The on-duty room parents can make copies or continue get the softcopy from RCS web > Various Forms. The purpose is to save the trip to get it from office in the morning. But please still return it to GA after class and sign off.
